Opening Ceremony:

  • Think of a great location for opening ceremony every day
  • Structure:
    • Quote of the day (pertaining to the theme and core value of the week)
    • Introduction to counselors and intro for kids (Monday)
    • Rules/expectations for the week
    • Week layout (activities and structure)
    • Game – Barnyard Escape
      • Everyone is assigned an animal, they have to make the animal noise and find other people making the same animal noise. Once they find their matches, they can sit with those people and get ready for the opening ceremony.
      • You can change up the animals or make other adaptations to this game each day.
    • Song – Boa Constrictor song, and other camp songs (like the Hippo Song, or other animal songs you may know)
  • Quotes:
    • “The Earth has music for those who listen.” – Shakespeare
    • “Earth does not belong to us; we belong to Earth.” –Chief Seattle
    • “The least I can do it speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves.” –Jane Goodall (Referring to speak up for the environment and wildlife)

  • Large group Games:
    • Life-size version of Snake (like the game on old brick cell phones…)

 

Huddle Group Questions:

  • Icebreaker game first.
    • MONDAY – Welcome to the Jungle! What do you think a jungle is? What lives there?
    • TUESDAY – Yesterday we mentioned animals that live in the jungle, what do you think those animals need to survive in the jungle?
    • WEDNESDAY – What animal do you think is the coolest or most beautiful in the jungle? Why?
    • THURSDAY – Tell us about your favorite experience in the wild (in nature, in your backyard, at the zoo, etc.)
    • FRIDAY – If you could be any animal, what would you be, and why?

 

Bonus Question (last question for every day):

What are you going to do for the environment today? (can do this at camp or at home)

  • Based on your site. If you can, you can try to include the Jungle theme into your service project.

 

 

Camper Choice and Free Play Ideas:

  • Art/Crafts (Can use the above craft ideas)
  • STEM (Learn about the environment, the important of rainforests, biodiversity – the importance of having a lot of different kinds of animals)
  • Sports

 

 

Closing Ceremony:

  • Groups (if your camp has designated teams or groups for the week) come up with a short animal or jungle themed cheer/chant/song to perform in front of the other campers.
    • The groups can be given different jungle animal names for the week) like a team name).
    • Incentive: The group/team with the best/most creative cheer/song/chant gets to do a special activity (i.e. pie a counselor of their choice in the face, read the quote of the day the next day, choose or lead a camp song, etc.)
  • Reminder for the next day’s activity/mini theme, whatever
    • Example: “Dress Like Your Favorite Animal Day”
    • Remember it’s pool day, wear sunscreen, bring whatever materials they need for the next day!
  • Friday’s ceremony: Each group (if you split into groups, age groups, counselor groups, etc.) will perform mini skit/song/poem/cheer/chant about the Jungle, or Core Value for the parents/guardians to see.
